Forest Planning Processes in a CMC Context -
an example from Switzerland

by Miklos Irmay (short-biography)
Institute of Forest, Snow and Landscape Research/Switzerland

Abstract

In Switzerland, information account and basic forms of participation of concerned people and organisations within the "Spatial Planning" are well known. To introduce similar tools into "Forest Planning" processes is a new evolution. It involves public information and participation which is strongly related to judgement, formation of opinion and decision making.

The lecture retraces the reasons that have lead to the changes from the old to some current forest planning conceptions and shows the ways of giving account and interactive participation in new forest planning processes, with and without Computer Mediated Communication (CMC).
